Amnesia is a condition that affects and impairs the memory. It could result from organic or functional causes. It could be caused by brain damage, disease or through trauma and even from the use of certain drugs.
These would classify as organic causes. Functional causes would include psychological factors, like defense mechanisms such as hysterical post-traumatic amnesia. Another common condition is transient global amnesia, which is spontaneous.
This kind of amnesia is quite common amongst the middle-aged and elderly, particularly males. It generally passes within twenty four hours.
Amnesia could refer to memory loss that is either partial or absolute, which could be temporary or permanent. The temporary loss is usually simply referred to as amnesia. Anterograde and retrograde are two types of amnesia. A person who can not be taught or trained with anything new suffers from anterograde amnesia, while retrograde amnesia is the condition where the patient has no memory of past events. Amnesia that is caused by trauma could be either of these two types.
There are a number of natural remedies that are believed to help recovery and aid the healing process. Rosemary is widely regarded as being quite effective for treatment of amnesia. Drinking the herbal tea regularly is quite effective for almost any forgetfulness problems. Holy basil is another excellent home remedy for amnesia and is believed to improve the memory and help maintain mental stability. Consuming the leaves directly can also be very beneficial. Having some finely powdered black pepper along with little honey can also help a lot. Drinking a tea made with saga leaves on a regular basis can help alleviate mental fatigue and reinforce the ability to focus or concentrate.
Some basic dietary changes can also help combat the condition effectively. Walnut is widely regarded as being beneficial for the memory and regular consumption of walnuts preferably after waking can be excellent for memory loss. Almonds are also known to be effective as memory enhancers and promote healthy functioning of the brain. Fruits that have a high phosphorous content like oranges, grapes, apples, and dates are also useful.
