The urinary system is composed of the kidneys, the urethra and the bladder. The most important though are the kidneys. These purplish- brown organs are positioned in the lower rib area, more towards the middle portion of the back of the body.
The kidney basically serves the function of removing the excess amount of wastes and liquids that are extracted from the blood and disposed off on the form of urine. This is important as it maintains a balance of salts and other important ingredients in the blood. The kidney also helps on the production of hormone that aids the development of red blood cells on the body. The kidneys are connected by thin tubes called ureters that help transport the urine from the kidneys to the bladder. A urinary tract infection occurs when there is a bacterial infection in any area of the urinary tract. The urine also contains a number of waste products, however this waste does not normally have and bacteria in it. However if bacteria does get into the bladder or the kidney, they start to multiply in the urine an in effect cause an infection. A highly common type of a urinary tract infection is also known as cystitis, there is also another type of infection that is known a pyelonephritis, and this type of infection is comparatively more serious. These infections are easy to treat if taken care of in the nascent stage itself.
There are numerous natural remedies that you can try to treat a urinary tract infection. Of the more commonly used remedies, cranberry juice is also effective and has been in use for almost a century to treat the infection. Cranberry contains a natural ingredient called proanthocvanins, which help in stopping bacteria from attaching themselves to the urinary tract and thus allows the urine to wash all of the bacteria away.
