The other name for piles is hemorrhoids. These hemorrhoids are basically swollen blood vessels that are already present around the area of the anus and the lower rectum. These blood vessels stretch under pressure and are very similar to the varicose veins that are present in the legs.
However the increased pressure on these veins due to; forced bowel movements lead to the development of swelling and result in piles. Some of the reasons for piles are chronic constipation, aging, diarrhea and sometimes pregnancy. There are two types of hemorrhoids.
The first is internal and the other is external, the type of treatment sometimes differs depending on the type of piles you have. Sometimes piles may also be caused due to low levels of fiber in one's diet. This result's in sluggish bowel movement and puts pressure in the bowels during excretion. Other causes of piles are chronic cough or the occurrence of bronchitis the lifting if heavy weights, liver disorders and high blood pressure. If you have any of these problems then perhaps treating them and making sure that they are checked upon regularly and are under control will help in reducing the chances of your piles recurring again.
Therefore the best way to reduce the chances of piles recurring is to try and keep your stools as soft as possible, such that they pass easily and therefore effectively reduce the strain and pressure exerted on the blood vessels. Also emptying your bowels immediately or as soon as possible after the need to go to the toilet occurs will also help I a great way. Avoid sitting on the toilet for too long as it increases the strain and is therefore bad. Make sure to exercise well as this also helps proper and smooth bowel movement. Try taking long brisk walks instead of undergoing strenuous exercise routines.
