There are normally a number of reasons why you might have irregular periods. These causes may be internal or external. Some of the external factors are due to a faulty lifestyle or a bad diet and can be changed by making certain adjustments in diet, sleeping and waking hours and the overall consumption of nutrients.

Some of the external causes of irregular periods are as follows. High levels of stress use of drugs, smoking too much, high levels of cholesterol, excessive weight gain or excessive loss of weight. But mostly it is a sudden loss of weight that causes irregular menstruation.

There are eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia are also known to cause irregular menstruation. Sometimes even exercising too much may cause you to miss you periods. Other factors included are; an illness of some sort, the use of certain medication like hormonal birth control pills will also cause you to miss your periods sometimes. These are not sure causes of you missing your periods, but may be indirectly linked sometimes to irregular menstruation. The internal problems that occur are much harder to spot and hence more difficult to ascertain if they are the exact cause or not. Some of these reasons include an imbalance of hormones or complications with the organs in the pelvic region such as; an imperforate hymen, polycystic ovary syndrome and Asherman's syndrome.

You can remedy this by taking a few preventive measures and a few logical steps. The best and most effective thing to do if you have missed your period is too just relax and avoid getting stressed about it as far as possible. Although this may not sound easy to you, by restoring your peace of mind you can help your body balance itself and allow for the proper functioning of your bodily processes. Check again for pregnancy, if pregnancy is definitely not a possibility, the chances are your menstruation cycle will return back to normal in a month's time. You can also use a herb known as 'Dil' or Anethum sowa, which helps in stimulating the menstrual cycle.
