Excessive bleeding while menstruation?

Excessive menstruation bleeding or menorrhagia tends to occur among at least 10 percent of the female population. Usually these cases of excessive bleeding during period are observed among the younger women. These women would have just about started to menstruate.


Excessive menstrual bleeding and clotting is also observed among the older women that are nearing the menopausal period. An excessive menstrual flow is characterized by menses that tend to last longer than 7 to 8 days and also by heavier bleeding than normal. Causes of excessive bleeding will include hormonal imbalances, abnormal blood clotting and also disorders that occur in the woman’s uterine lining. In some cases where menstruation excessive bleeding is occurring, some of the women may become anemic. This condition of anemia occurs when the woman’s body cannot replace all the blood that is being lost. Some of the symptoms that one may experience at this time include tiredness, numbness in their toes and fingers, shortness of breath, mild depression and headaches. Some women may even show signs of poor concentration and overall weakness. In cases of excessive menstrual bleeding treatment that some doctors recommend includes the under going hormonal therapy. Some women even get blood clots during menstrual cycle.

There are various effective home remedies to treat a case of heavy bleeding during menstruation among women. Some of the recommended advice given is to increase one’s intake of vegetables and fruits that are high in Vitamin C. These include lemons, oranges, broccoli and Brussels sprouts. Some women are even advised to increase their intake of Vitamin K as this vitamin is a natural way to reduce the level of bleeding. Some women are recommended to drink herbal teas to help in reducing their stress levels and thus to ease their heavy bleeding. Sage and agrimony are among the recommended herbal teas that help in preventing blood clots from occurring. A woman who suffers from heavy bleeding should avoid those drinks that contain high levels of caffeine like coffee and tea. One can even have an aromatherapy session or even try a warm bath to help in keeping them stress free and relaxed. The woman’s diet should also be high in iron which can be found in red meats, seafood, liver, poultry and oysters. Eating plenty of green vegetables like spinach is recommended too. Beet juice made from fresh beet root also is a rich source of iodine, iron and calcium.
