Migraines are actually prolonged headaches that are typically accompanied with a vast variety of other symptoms as well. They can also include chills, fever, eye strain, and eye ache. They are generally earmarked by their unique property of affecting one side of the head and causing deep-rooted and intense pain on that side only. This pain can be a pounding one, which feels as if something is constantly hitting the inside of the head with a heavy object. It can also be an all-permeating dull type of pain, which is always hovering in the background of your consciousness. Sometimes, migraines are so powerful that they can actually affect the vision of the patient. A lot of people have the tendency to actually be rendered immobile when they are suffering from migraines.

There are several well proven and documented reasons for migraines to occur. One of the commonest reasons is heredity. In this case, there is little you can do except resort to medicine to control the pain. Migraines may also be caused due to a high stress lifestyle. If this is the case with you, you will have to figure out ways to slow down and take it easy, otherwise there is no curing the pain. Sometimes, severe indigestion can also cause migraines. But this would be a gradual buildup over a period of a few days, as severe indigestion can take that much time to actually develop and reach such high levels. On occasion, fluctuating blood sugar levels can also cause migraines. In this case, you would have to resort to bringing your blood sugar under control and keeping it at a steady level. Some of the other causes of migraines may also include vision irregularities, a hangover, liver trouble or abused and sore head and neck muscles. In any and all cases, the best solution for migraines is adequate sleep and rest.
