Atherosclerosis is a condition or process caused by a build up of deposits of cholesterols, fatty substance, calcium, cellular waste product and many other materials in an artery. There is a sticky substance in the blood vessels that builds up and is referred to as a plaque. It generally affects midsized and large arteries.

Hardening of the arteries is to a certain extent considered quite normal as a part of the physiological process in the aged.

Celery contains flavonoids, which is dependent on the type and variety of crop. Flavonoids offer protection against cancer as they have an anti-oxidant effect and research also suggests that it inhibits arteriosclerosis.

There are other natural remedies as well that you could try. You can eat a few garlic cloves every day, as this is believed to be the best remedy for the condition, since it clears the circulatory system and arteries and flushes out any toxins present in the bloodstream. You can also mince some cloves and mix them with either orange juice or water and drink it. Garlic in almost any form, even pills, is believed to be extremely good for atherosclerosis. Garlic also helps to lower cholesterol levels in the bloodstream.
