Rotator cuff problem & remedies
(21 Jul 2008)

The rotator cuff is the name given to a collection of muscles that enable your arm to move from the shoulder joint. This is a sensitive area of your body and unfortunately, it is also extremely prone to developing all kinds of problems. In order to take care of problems associated with the rotator cuff, however, it is extremely important to know the exact nature of the problem.

Sometimes, you could have pulled a muscle, which, though painful, simply needs rest to cure. It could also be that you have developed tendonitis, which means a tendon in the area might be damaged due to any variety of reasons. In this case, you would have to apply heat to the area and rest it as much as you can, allowing for minimal movement.
A simple strain could also cause great discomfort. Once again, rest is the only answer. If you have a muscle tear, then this would require medical attention immediately. It is advisable that you not try to cure yourself if you have extreme and unbearable pain that lasts for more than an hour. This would worsen your situation. You could also be affected by bursitis in this area, though this is relatively uncommon. In this case as well, you would need a medical examination to determine this for you. In the interim, you can apply ice packs for relief and also to avoid further damage.
