There is normally no need to do anything to remove wax from one's ears. The body has its own natural mechanism to get rid of the dirt and the accumulated wax in the ears. In fact, cleaning your ears of the wax can cause several problems, as ear wax performs several functions, such as keeping the ear moist and lubricated, trapping dirt, and fighting bacterial and fungal infections.
If you get rid of the wax, you interfere with all these functions, and can end up with a ear infection or some other problems.
On the other hand, if you feel that the ear wax is not getting cleared up as it should naturally, you will need to remove this build up. This does happen on occasion, resulting in a mild and temporary hearing difficulty. However, this clean up of excess wax should only be performed by a medical professional. In fact, it is not even advisable for nurses to perform these procedures unless they have the required training - it should only be done by a doctor. Fiddling around inside your ear or getting a friend or family member to do so will only make matters worse. Therefore, if you feel you need to get your ears cleaned, you should plan a visit to your family doctor.
