Stretch marks appear when there is a sudden increase in weight forcing the skin to stretch. As a result fine, often unsightly lines appear on the stretched skin. Stretch marks are a normal occurrence during puberty when the body undergoes radical changes and growth, pregnancy or due to a change in physical conditions. It is important to take good care of the skin and keep it well lubricated and toned to avoid getting stretch marks in the growing years or due to weight gain or weight loss. Once you get the stretch marks, however it is not very easy to get rid of them without laser surgery. Nevertheless there are some simple home remedies for getting rid of minor stretch marks.
Vitamin K is excellent for treating stretch marks and thus food containing this Vitamin (green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, liver and dairy products) should be included in the diet. Similarly you should increase your intake of zinc, found in seeds and nuts. Vitamin E is excellent in reducing all kinds of marks; you can either have Vitamin E capsules or apply Vitamin E oil on the stretch marks directly. Aloe Vera gel also works miracles on stretch marks making them fade gradually. Lavender oil is also very beneficial in reducing stretch marks and should be applied thrice a day for best results. Application of Vaseline lotion or cocoa butter during pregnancy helps to prevent stretch marks.
