Body detoxification is a natural way of helping the body get rid of the unwanted toxins and built up poisons. These toxins often interfere with the normal processes of the body and it is best to get them out of the way. These toxins come in through the air we breath and the food and water that we consume. Although de -toxing is essential to clean the body, there is one important factor to be kept in mind. Never try and detoxify yourself instantly and without preparation, which is generally followed by a period of excess. This is bad because your body is not yet ready to deal with the sudden release of all the toxins stored in your body.

The best way to detoxify is to create an increase in the selenium levels. This helps in the production of an antioxidant enzyme known as glutathione peroxidase. The enzyme helps in effectively detoxifying the body and each of these enzymes contain about four selenium atoms. The selenium also helps protect the liver, but if you smoke then you will have to work harder towards increasing the amount of selenium in your body. Foods rich in selenium are brown rice, garlic, chicken, broccoli, molasses and vegetables.
