The gall bladder is a small organ that holds the bile that is created by the liver, and releases it when food is consumed, in order to aid digestion of the food. The most common problem associated with the gall bladder is gall stones - it is still not clear exactly why these stones form, but they seem to be due to various dietary imbalances and weight problems. Gall stones are composed of many different substances, from cholesterol to calcium.
Another problem that affects the gall bladder is known as cholecystitis, and this is sometimes, though not always, caused by gall stones. This condition is basically inflammation of the gall bladder. Other problems that affect the gall bladder include cancer, but this is extremely rare.
The main symptom of a gall bladder problem is pain or discomfort in the upper right side of the abdomen, experienced most often immediately after a meal, which is when the gall bladder begins to work. Other symptoms may also exist, such as nausea, diarrhea, gas, abdominal bloating. After a while, the abdominal pain and nausea may be almost constant, and in severe cases, the you may also develop jaundice if the condition remains untreated for a long time.
