Halitosis, or general bad breath, can be caused due to many factors. It could be that you have been neglecting your general dental health and maintenance. This could lead to development of some kind of gum disease or excessive tartar build ups.
Sometimes, an improperly cleaned tongue can also lead to bad breath. Excessive plaque that has collected on the teeth also gives bad breath. It is also possible that you are unaware about any cavities you might have.
Cavities can lead to bad breath when they have become too large and food deposits have started collecting in them.
In some of the cases mentioned here, you would need to do the obvious, such as brushing your teeth properly and vigorously twice a day. This will take care of problems such as plaque and tartar build up. Each brushing session should last for about two minutes and you should cover each of your teeth in the duration. Brush with an up-down motion, rather than a side-to-side brushing. Other remedies you can try include chewing on fresh leaves of parsley or mint. Both these herbs supposedly have properties that cleanse your breath, and they will also work to clean you tongue effectively. Try to avoid drinking colas and other aerated drinks, as these generally add to bad breath.
