Natural Remedies for Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis is highly contagious and is possibly one of the most common of all eye problems. It is also commonly referred to as pink eye. Conjunctivitis or pink eye is an infection of the conjunctiva or the thin membrane of the eye and is inflammatory.

The infection is most commonly caused by viruses or bacteria, but it could also be an allergic reaction. Conjunctivitis causes the eyes to become itchy, red, watery, and sensitive to light.

There are a number of remedies that you could try out at home.

They are quite effective but if the infection lingers on despite treatment it would be best to visit a doctor.

Make a poultice with raw but red potato or apple. Whichever you use it should be grated and leave it on the closed infected eye or rather eyelid for at least half an hour. This has been found to be quite effective and the infection should clear within two to three days. You can also use an eyewash made from cool Chamomile tea twice a day. Vitamin C helps speed and facilitates the healing process, so it would be a good idea to increase your intake of the vitamin either through consumption of fruits rich in vitamin C or through supplements.
