Urinary infection home remedy

How do I treat a urinary infection?
(27 Jun 2008)

Infections in the urinary tract are quite common—especially in women. Even though urinary infections are not very common in men, they can pose a very serious health problem to those affected.

This infection can happen when bacteria enter the urinary system through the digestive tract.

These bacteria can cling onto the urethra and cause infections. Escherichia coli, Chlamydia, and Mycoplasma are the bacteria that cause this infection.

E. coli is a bacterium that remains in the colon and sometimes travels to the urinary tract and causes infection. These bacteria however can also be sexually transferred from one partner to another. Generally our body ensures that no bacteria remain present in the urinary system. The composition of urine is such that it creates a pH environment where these bacteria can survive. Still, sometimes the bacteria can escape and cause infection.

Urinary infection cannot be cured by home remedies. However home remedies can boost immunity and prevent further infections.

Drinking a lot of water is the simplest way to ward off this infection. An adequate amount of water makes sure that your urinary tract is flushed several times a day, so that bacteria cannot cling to it. Also, when you feel like urinating, do not hold the urine back in. If you let the urine remain in your bladder, it can foster the growth of bacteria.

By far, the most effective home remedy for urinary tract infection is Cranberry juice. It not only speeds up recovery but also makes sure that your urinary tract remains safe from any such infections.

If you ingest a healthy dose of vitamin C everyday, you do not need to worry about urinary infections. The ascorbic acid increases the acidity of urine, and in turn decreases the bacteria in urine that can cause harm.

Even with these home remedies, it is important that you see a doctor about your infection. You can also take several precautions to make sure that you do not get infected. Women need to be especially careful as urinary infections commonly affect them. They should be very careful when wiping after defecating. Instead of wiping from the back, which leads to bacteria from the anus entering the vagina, wipe from the front.

Avoid using bathtubs. Showering is a healthier option when it comes to urinary infections. Clean your genitals regularly and with care. Use a dermatologically tested intimate hygiene wash if possible. Make sure that you clean the genital area thoroughly after sexual intercourse.

Urinary Tract Infections Natural Cure

Urinary tract infections or UTIs are usually minor infections that affect the bladder and the lower part of the urinary tract, but in some cases, the infection spreads to the kidneys as well, in which case the infection can become quite serious. Urinary tract infections are more common among women, and are usually caused by bacteria that have been transmitted during sexual intercourse or that have migrated from the anal area to the urethra.

No real treatment is required for most urinary infections; you should simply maintain proper hygiene and make sure that you are drinking enough water through the day. You should wash yourself several times through the day; women are advised to wipe from the front backwards, as the reverse increases the risk of transferring bacteria from the anal area to the urethra. At least 12 glasses of water is advisable when you have a urinary infection, so that the urinary tract is regularly flushed, minimizing the chances of bacteria multiplying. Cranberry juice is also supposed to be useful, as it contains vitamin C and other substances that ease the burning sensation and also make it difficult for bacteria to survive in the urinary tract. This should not however be done indefinitely - if the infection stays longer than three days, you should visit your doctor.
