Ideal Body Weight Information

The ideal weight of any person depends on their height - rather than just looking at the person's weight, what is looked at is their body mass index (BMI), a calculation that takes into account weight and height. You have not mentioned your height, only your age. However, 38 kg seems quite certainly underweight for almost any adult, at least slightly.

Even if you are extremely short, your ideal weight would probably be a little over 40 kg. If your height is over 5 feet, you are quite severely underweight.

If you are otherwise healthy, there is probably no cause for concern. Being underweight does not necessarily mean that you are unhealthy. To be on the safe side, you should ask your doctor for an opinion on your next visit. If you have a regular, family doctor, he or she will be aware of your medical history and the current state of your health. Factors that can cause you to be underweight include simple malnutrition, tuberculosis, excessive use of drugs or other stimulants, a problem with the digestive system, a serious disease such as cancer. Most of these factors, particularly the last two, will be quite obviously linked to a loss of weight. If you have always weighed more or less the same, it is probably normal for you. If you have no other health complaints, there is no need for you to worry or try to put on weight.
