Home Remedy for Shaving Rashes

Razor rash or razor burn is basically due to a bad shave, and everyone experiences it at some time or the other. Sometimes it is a mild rash, at other times pustules can also develop, basically tiny blisters. The latter condition is usually known as razor bumps, but both razor bumps and razor rash have the same basic causes — either sensitive skin or a problem with the shaving process itself.

There is not much you can do for razor rash — the best treatment is to keep patting cold water on the affected areas. Applying aloe vera gel is also quite effective at soothing the stinging, burning sensation. Another home remedy that is sometimes used for razor burn is witch hazel, which has some astringent properties. Applying a little bit of witch hazel immediately after shaving might also prevent the blisters from appearing, although to prevent razor burn itself, you will need to shave more carefully.

Always use a sharp blade — as soon as you find that a blade is getting dull, you should change it. In addition, be more gentle when you shave, make sure that you use a moisturizing shaving gel, and avoid shaving too close or shaving against the grain. This technique is fine for some people, but it may be too harsh for your skin.
