Sweating & Diabetes Health Advice

Nerve damage is a common complication in patients suffering from diabetes, and is the result of several factors that come into play with this condition. One of the most common problems experienced by diabetic patients is peripheral neuropathy, which involves nerve damage at the extremities — this mainly affects the arms and legs, and the legs are usually affected first. Patients do not always experience any symptoms, but the symptoms can include tingling, numbness, pain, dizziness, and weakness.

Sweating is not usually related to peripheral neuropathy, but to another complication of diabetes — hypoglycemia, which is a side effect of insulin injections. The term basically describes a state in which the blood glucose levels are abnormally low. This is usually not a serious problem, but has the potential to cause major damage and require hospitalization in severe cases, and should therefore not be neglected.

However, there seems to be no reason for the sweating to be limited only to your mother's legs, so the cause of this sweating is not entirely clear.

Your mother should discuss these symptoms with her doctor. He will be aware of how severely diabetic your mother is, what treatment she is on, and what complications could arise.
