Pregnancy & Adult Measles Information

You have mentioned how old you were when you had measles, but you have not mentioned how old you are now. What is important is how recently you had measles, not the age at which you had it. If this happened several years ago, then you have absolutely no need to worry.

The danger is developing measles during your pregnancy; any previous infections pose no threat at all. In fact, if you’ve already had measles before your pregnancy, it is usually a good thing, as this means that you are now quite certainly immune to the disease.

Developing measles during a pregnancy is extremely dangerous — it can result in a miscarriage or a premature delivery, or even birth defects such as deafness or brain damage.

Parents who are planning to have a baby are often advised that the mother should be vaccinated to avoid such situations. This should be done at least a month in advance, so that the live virus is no longer in the mother’s body at the time of the pregnancy. Your question seems to imply that your measles episode was quite a while ago, so to answer your question — if this is indeed the case, no, it will not affect your pregnancy.
