Flank Neuritis Symptoms and Health Advice

Neuritis refers to a condition in which the nerve or a part of the nervous system gets inflamed. It can be optic (related to the eye) or peripheral (related to the peripheral nervous system.) Usually caused by disease or illnesses, peripheral neuritis can be a result of such conditions as AIDS, diabetes, seizures, alcoholism and even nutritional deficiencies.

Flank neuritis is one of the manifestations of peripheral neuritis and symptoms include tremors, numbness and imbalance in walking. Itching, tingling, pain, weakness, cramps and heaviness in the flanks include other symptoms.

Vaccines such as MMR (given commonly for measles) can cause certain side effects like fever, rash, swelling of glands in the cheek or neck, temporary stiffness in knees and other joints and even mild seizures.

Febrile convulsions and peripheral neuritis has also been observed but rarely. Optic neuritis has been observed even more rarely; in 30 years of administering the vaccine, only 5 cases have been reported and all of them developed a week after vaccination. Neuritis developed within 24 hours of vaccination in only 1 case. There is thus no direct and established connection between flank neuritis and MMR vaccine. If such a case is observed you should consult a doctor immediately to rule out other reasons
