Advice on Medicine Detoxification

Detoxing from Medication?
( 3 Jul 2008)

Information on Medication Detoxification

There is no real need to detoxify your body after having taken any medication, or indeed after consuming almost any substance. The body has its own system for detoxification, and any harmful substances that were contained in the medication that you were taking (or in your regular diet) are removed from your body with this system. This includes various processes that occur at the cellular level as well as the processes of excretion.

The main purpose of organs such as the kidneys is in fact to remove toxic substances from the blood and excrete them in various ways, such as through the urine.

If the medication you have taken has had any harmful effect on your body, the damage is already done, but it will stop as soon as the medicine is stopped and your body cleanses itself, which, as mentioned before, happens through natural processes. Any additional cleansing measures such as detoxification diets and enemas are unnecessary and useless.

If you are experiencing particularly unpleasant side effects from your medication, you need to discuss this with your doctor and find out if there are any alternatives. If you have already stopped your medication (note that this should never be done without your doctor's consent) and are still experiencing the side effects, this is greater cause for concern and you should discuss it with your doctor.
