Sinusitis Natural Treatment

A sinus infection can be extremely painful and debilitating, and a chronic infection can disrupt your whole life, making it very difficult to function at all. Sinuses are any cavities in body tissues, but most commonly the word is used to refer to the paranasal sinuses, cavities in the face that are connected with the nasal cavity and filled with air. Sometimes, these cavities become inflamed and blocked, and filled with fluid that cannot drain.

The build up of pressure along with the inflammation is what gives you the peculiar sinus headache, where you feel like your head is going to burst. Most cases of sinusitis are mild, and are resolved on their own or with a few home remedies. More severe cases however may need to be treated with antibiotics and/or corticosteroids.

In general, you need to drink plenty of fluids when you have a sinus infection - just the same as when you have a cold, this helps free up and drain the accumulated mucus. Another effective and more immediate way to do this is steam inhalation. Adding a drop or two of eucalyptus oil to the water makes this remedy more effective. In addition, you can sip hot tea through the day (without milk), preferably adding a little ginger and honey to it.
