Tonsillitis Natural Remedies
In most cases, no medication is required to treat tonsillitis, but you can use a variety of remedies to soothe your condition. The tonsils are lymph tissues in your throat that are meant to protect your body from infection, but sometimes the tonsils themselves get infected. Tonsillitis is basically a bacterial or viral infection of the tonsils, and usually, your body is able to successfully fight the infection on its own within a few days.
In cases where the infection is very severe or recurs frequently, you should visit a doctor, as antibiotics may be needed, or the tonsils might even need to be removed. Normally however, most of the remedies used are practically the same as the ones for coughs and sore throats, aimed mainly at easing the pain and inflammation.
A salt water gargle is particularly effective as it lessens the inflammation and pain, and in addition, gets rid of bacteria to a substantial extent. Another good home remedy is warm milk in which a pinch of turmeric powder has been added; turmeric is an excellent natural antibacterial agent and analgesic. It is not practical or advisable to drink milk all through the day, so this remedy should ideally be used at night, just before going to bed; the salt water gargle however can be repeated through the day, as many times as you like.
