Health Advice on Breast Milk
Breast feeding or lactating can occur during pregnancy and after a woman stops lactating as well. This happens because a woman's body is still producing hormones that stimulate her breasts to produce milk. Generally after a woman stops breast feeding, she stops lactating but it is not a rule as such and some women have even been known to breast feed their children for a period of three to four years.
Therefore as long as it is not causing you any untoward problems your condition may be normal. Breast being swollen may seem so because of the fact that you are still lactating .If the swelling is not painful then you have nothing to worry about.
If the swelling is in the form of lumps then it could be a sign of breast cancer. Another factor to be concerned about is; whether you can find traces of blood in the milk. If not then you have nothing to worry about and paying a short visit to your doctor would never hurt. However since you have mentioned that you have still been lactating after so long needs attention and it is best that you visit your gynecologist to ascertain why and what is the best solution to remedy your problem. Women can continue breastfeeding for years if they choose to do so. Some women breastfeed their children for three or four years.
