Chickenpox Natural Care

Chicken pox or Varicella, is a highly contagious disease in which the body is covered with a rash that forms into blisters which burst and scab over. The scabs fall off after a few days once they dry. Chicken pox usually affects children between the age of two and eight years but it can even affect older children and even adults at times.

The main cause for chicken pox is the herpes zoster virus which spreads through contact with the blisters, inhaling airborne droplets. If you have a poor immune system, the risks of getting contaminated are higher.

Sponging the body with 1 glass of water mixed with ½ tsp of baking soda helps to control the itching and irritation of the skin due to the rash. Apart from this you can add ½ cup of brown vinegar to the bath water to soothe irritation. Alternately you can use the water used to cook fresh green peas to bathe, or allow fresh margosa leaves to float n your bath water. Application of honey on the rash helps to heal the disease and also ensures that there are no scars afterwards. Similarly application of Vitamin E oil has a healing effect. Carrot and coriander soup is said to be beneficial in the treatment of chicken pox. Similarly herbal teas such as chamomile, basil, marigold, cinnamon and lemon balm have shown to be beneficial in chicken pox treatment.
