Pharyngitis, tonsillitis or more commonly sore throat, is an ailment of the throat and tonsils. Sore throat generally causes inflammation and an uncomfortable itchy feeling as well as pain in talking in swallowing food. To treat a sore throat naturally, avoid consuming refined and greasy foods, pickles, candies, cold drinks and icecreams.

Also ensure that you are drinking plenty of water, at least 6 to 8 glasses per day. Consume plenty of warm liquids in the form of hot soups and tea. An excellent remedy for a sore throat is drinking warm water with 1 tsp lemon juice and honey.

Alternately you can brew some chamomile tea and add some honey and lemon for immediate effects. You can also prepare a tea by simmering chives or scallions in water for 5 minutes for instant relief from a sore throat.

Lemon can be used for another remedy for sore throat. Sprinkle some salt and pepper onto a piece of lemon and press it so that the salt and pepper penetrates the fruit completely. Warm the lemon and slowly lick the lemon till the juice is over. Repeat this several times a day for best results. Figs and beets are also very beneficial in sore throat treatments.
