Cellutis: A Bacterial Infection, Its Symptoms and Treatments
Cellulitis is a skin disorder that affects the connective tissue that lies directly beneath the skin. The disorder is generally caused by an infection of the bacteria that enters into the human body through a break or cut in the skin that was caused due to a burn, insect bite, a surgical wound etc. This break or cut does not have to even be visible. The bacteria are generally the normal bacteria that reside in the skin or by bacteria that is alien or exogenous.

The most effective treatment for this is treatment with antibiotics. The areas most commonly affected are the skin on the facial areas and the lower area of the legs. The infection may be only rampant on the surface of the skin but sometimes in extreme cases it can affect the underlying tissues as well, sometimes even spreading to the blood vessels and the lymph node as well.

The disorder has the characteristic appearance of swelling, a feeling of tenderness or pain in the affected area and redness of the skin. Generally manifesting itself on the; feet, arms and legs. Sometimes the symptoms also include a fever and chills or headaches. In some extreme cases the red cellulitis streaks tend to travel upwards from the affected area and include swelling that spreads rapidly. The disease also has the nickname of ‘John Wayne's' disease as it causes a limp some patients.
