A clogged ear may be the result of a variety of causes. The build-up of excess earwax, inflammation of the sensitive membrane lining the inner walls of the ear cavity or the Eustachian tube, accumulation of water inside the ear that might have accidentally entered during swimming or bathing, and formation of pus inside the ear due to fungal or bacterial infections. It is important to determine the exact cause of a blocked ear, especially so if the problem is accompanied with earache too, in which case one should immediately consult a doctor.
However, there are a few simple home remedies for ear infections that you can follow at home to treat the condition. One of the most effective ways of treating a clogged ear is to make a hydrogen peroxide solution by mixing this chemical with roughly the same amount of distilled water and pouring it drop by drop into the ear. Make sure that you lie on your side for long enough to let the solution dissolve the wax inside the ear. Once you start to feel a gentle tingling sensation inside the ear, simply roll over and let the solution trickle out of your ear. Repeat the process for clearing the other ear too. You can also make another cleansing solution by mixing equal parts of white vinegar, mineral oil and hydrogen peroxide and apply a few drops of this mixture into the ear. This is an effective way of getting rid of excessive moisture inside the ear and preventing the growth of germs. However, if you are suffering from blocked ears as a consequence of head injury or air travel, do not try these remedies till the pressure inside the ear canal balances itself out naturally. To equalize the pressure within and outside the ears you could hold your nose shut using your fingers and close the opening of the unaffected ear with your other hand and blow air out through the opening of the clogged ear. Submerging your head inside a tub of water in this position also helps sometimes to pop air bubbles out of the ear, thereby unblocking it. Frequent swallowing and yawning are also known to help in unclogging a blocked ear by readjusting the internal air pressure within the ear cavity. In addition, add some Epsom salt into a cup of hot water, soak a piece of cotton cloth into this and wring it dry; then cover up the blocked ear with this cloth.

An ear can get clogged if substances such as wax or fluids such as water happen to be trapped in it. It might not hurt when the substances just start to fill in. However, later on, the pain arrives and makes life and hearing difficult. Hence, the moment you sense your ear clogging up, just step into the kitchen and use some sweet oil to unclog it. All you have to do is dip a ball of cotton in the sweet oil and gently - ever so gently - place it in the ear that's troubling you. A few minutes after you have done this, the clog in the ear starts to break. You can then remove the cotton and start to rinse out the matter. Besides sweet oil, you can also use hydrogen peroxide. Warm up a bowl of water and to this add hydrogen peroxide.
Lie down on the sofa so that the clogged ear faces the ceiling. Now, carefully pour the mixture into this ear. It might be a little difficult to do so and you might end up pouring the mixture all over your face and your expensive satin cushions. So, do try to get some assistance. Once you've poured it in, its starts to froth and you must let it bubble for a few minutes. Drain it out thereafter and watch the clogged matter wash away.
