Home Remedies for Tooth Ache

My husband takes Fentora, a powerful pain medicine, which has to be held in between his cheek and gum. This has caused his gums to be very sore. What can he do to alleviate the pain?

Toothache Remedies

Sore gums are usually a result of some infections of the gums or teeth or a situation where the skin of the gums has been affected. It can also be due to abrasions, burns, growths and lesions on the gums. Apart from this the best way to keep your gums strong and healthy is to maintain a good dental hygiene routine, brushing and flossing your teeth regularly to keep away the plaque and other infections.

Also regularly rinse your mouth with Listerine to kill the bacteria and alleviate the pain. Rinsing your mouth with a salt water rinse prepared with 1 tsp of salt in 1 glass of lukewarm water, kills any infection and soothes the soreness and pain. Applying baking soda to your teeth and gently brushing your teeth afterwards helps to keep bacteria and infections at pay, keeping your gums healthy.

Very often, keeping a medicine, even something as common as aspirin in your mouth for long periods, can be harmful for the gums. Instead of helping, it damages the gums by causing a chemical burn in the gum tissue, leading to inflammation and pain. Avoid applying such medications on your gum and do not store any strong medication in your mouth. In such a case, you can apply an ice pack to your cheek or jaw line as a local anaesthetic or even suck on some ice-chips to soothe the effects of the chemical burn, inflammation as well as pain. Holding a cold soaked tea-bag over your gums also helps to alleviate the pain since the tannin in the tea acts as a natural astringent and reduces the pain.
