Tonsillitis Remedies for Throat Infections
Tonsillitis is an infection of the tonsils, either bacterial or viral, and the treatment depends on the severity of the infection. If you are experiencing a lot of pain and difficulty swallowing, as well as fever, or if the infection lasts for longer than a week, you should ideally visit a doctor, as some medication may be necessary. In severe bacterial infections of the tonsils, antibiotics will be needed to fight the infection.
Also, for chronic infections that regularly recur, or last for a very long time, or do not respond to medication, the only option may be a tonsillectomy — surgically removing the tonsils.
In case of mild infections, the body fights the infection on its own, and you can use some home remedies to help it along and also ease the pain. Warm milk with a little bit of turmeric powder is excellent for throat infections and tonsillitis.
The same goes for a warm salt water gargle, which you can do as many times as you like through the day. If possible, you should also avoid solid food, as this strains the already sore tonsils and throat; instead, consume plenty of fluids. Hot soup is excellent for such infections, as long as you are careful not to burn yourself.
