Natural Remedies for Gout
The best methods of treating gout are in fact the non medical methods – these mainly involve diet control. The condition basically involves a build up of uric acid in the body – uric acid crystals begin to form in the joints, causing inflammation and a great deal of pain. Dietary treatment involves two things – reducing the intake of foods rich in purine, a substance that increases uric acid levels in the body, and increasing the intake of foods that help the body to efficiently excrete the excess of uric acid.
Most meat products, particularly internal organs such as liver and kidneys, cause an increase in uric acid and should therefore be avoided. In addition, alcohol, beans, spinach, asparagus, and whole grain cereal are also to be avoided. To get rid of excess uric acid from the body, you should increase your intake of celery, cherries, and vitamin C in general.
It is also important to drink a lot of water in order to help the body in flushing out the excess uric acid. Other fruits and vegetables like apples, bananas, carrots, and beetroot, as well as dairy products also seem to be beneficial in controlling gout. If you follow these dietary recommendations you should soon be able to completely avoid any unpleasant and painful gout attacks.
