Causes and Treatment for Toothache
A toothache always has an underlying cause that needs to be addressed – like most people; you and your boyfriend are making the mistake of trying to treat the toothache itself. Instead, what needs to be treated is the infection that is causing the toothache. Since the toothache has lasted for a week and seems quite severe, this is enough indication that there is some serious problem with his teeth or gums, and you should get him to visit a dentist as soon as possible.
You will be surprised at how severe a tooth infection can become if it is left untreated for too long.
In the meanwhile, you can try some home remedies to ease the pain (if you haven't already tried them) in case you are unable to get an immediate appointment with the dentist. Chewing on a clove or applying clove oil are two common remedies that you must certainly have already tried.
Continue to do this, but in addition, your boyfriend should chew on a small piece o ginger as well. He can put a piece of ice in his mouth and hold it against the affected area. Another simple remedy is to take a sip of whiskey and hold it in the mouth, swishing it around the affected area in particular.
