Rheumatism causes and remedies

Rheumatism refers to a condition that causes pain and swelling in the muscles, joints and ligaments. It includes arthritis, osteoarthritis as well as soft tissue rheumatism. It usually afflicts elderly people and symptoms include fever, pain, intense soreness and stiffness of muscles and swelling.

Amongst elderly people it is usually caused to the increased brittleness of bones with age which makes the joints stiff and thus painful. It can also happen due to the inflammation of the tissues around the joints which further damage the bones and cartilage leading to rheumatism. It can also happen due to an injury to the bones, joints or cartilage which leads to soft tissue rheumatism.

Unfortunately the real cause for rheumatism has not yet been identified, but the common causes include genetics, tooth infections, hormonal imbalance and presence of toxic agents in the blood.

Excessive consumption of red meat, white bread, sugar and refined cereals leads to an accumulation of acid wastes in the system. The effects of these wastes are not neutralised because there are not enough alkaline mineral salts in the food consumed, and thus the acid-alkaline balance is upset, leading to lowered vitality. The acid wastes concentrate around joints and bony structures forming rheumatism when the body's vitality is low. This happens because the main substance in bones is alkaline in nature. Sometimes, infections from tonsils and even gall bladder cause rheumatism and the condition is aggravated due to exposure to cold water.
