Ingrown toenails remedies

About 6 months ago I had my entire toenail removed on my big toe. It has now grown back but has grown into the sides of my toe and into the front of it. What can I do to help it finish growing correctly? I don't want to have that procedure done again.

Ingrown toenails remedies

Ingrowing nails - a condition medically termed as onychocryptosis - lead to immense pain and discomfort. This condition is known to be very commonly observed in toenails though fingernails are equally susceptible to it. The most common cause for ingrowing nails is improper footwear.

Certain footwear may not provide the toes with enough space and hence, the toes are huddled together. So, as the nail grows, it decides to pierce the skin that surrounds it. In addition, onychocryptosis occurs if you cut your nails way too short.

Also, if you happen to be one of those who stub their toes or drop things on their toenails out of sheer clumsiness, then you are the most likely candidate for ingrown nails.

Trim your nail regularly. Use a nail cutter and cut it the moment it shows signs of walking under the skin to its side. Remember it's still growing so you need to take that extra effort to shape it or else, it will grow into the skin if left alone. Also, soak your toe daily in warm water mixed with epsom salts. Also, make some time to walk barefoot. This way, you air the affected nail and minimize the chances of the growth of bacteria. Finally, remember, if the nail persists in going down the old route, you need to go down the street and consult a podiatrist.
