Vaginal odor home remedies Vaginal odor has two common causes – a lack of hygiene and an infection of some sort. A lack of hygiene can result in a build up of sweat and bacteria, leading to something similar to the unpleasant smell of unwashed armpits. This is a rather minor problem, and in order to maintain hygiene, only some basic measures are necessary.
Simply wash yourself several times a day using plain water, and then pat yourself dry with soft, unscented tissue paper. As far as possible, try to wear clothes and, in particular, underwear that are made of cotton, as they make you sweat less than other materials do, and also absorb sweat but dry quickly.
If this does not get rid of the smell, or if the smell is worse (a fishy odor is a common complaint), or is accompanied by itching or burning, then the problem is an infection, either bacterial or fungal.
In this case, it is better to get treatment from a doctor as these infections are difficult to treat at home. However, you can see if the basic hygiene measures just described have any effect, along with rinsing the area with vinegar and water once a day. Never use a douche however, as this is one home remedy that can cause more harm than good.
