Heel pain remedies Probably the most common cause of pain in the heels is plantar fasciitis. This is a rather painful, but usually not very serious problem that affects the band of fibrous tissue connecting the heel to the front of the foot. The condition sometimes occurs with age, but can also be due to excessive wear and tear of the tissue, known as the plantar fascia.
Treatment mainly involves resting the foot and thus the plantar fascia when pain occurs, and regular stretching of the tissue as well. The problem is mainly that the excessive stress, or simply age, makes the plantar fascia less flexible. To counter this, you need to stretch the tissue regularly — rotating your foot for a few minutes is one activity that helps, besides simply stretching your feet by pointing them first down and then up, and repeating this action.
In addition, after folding one leg onto the other, grip your foot firmly by placing your palm under your toes, and gently but firmly press the foot towards the shin.
The next time the pain occurs (if you are in constant pain then do this immediately), take immediate bed rest, for at least four days, and apply a cold compress regularly. Then resume normal activities and your stretching exercises. Also make sure that your footwear supports your arches properly, and try to lose weight if you are overweight.
