Arteriosclerosis queries The condition in which both medium and large arteries losing their elasticity and harden is known as arteriosclerosis. The flow of blood in important arteries such as the aorta is obstructed by a build-up of fat deposits. Because all the arteries in the body are affected by this block, the heart needs to work overtime in order to pump blood to every part of the body.
This condition usually leads to a number of heart diseases and can also lead to other conditions depending upon the artery that is blocked. For example, if one of the arteries sending blood to the head is blocked, you could suffer from dizziness or problems with your vision.
To fight arteriosclerosis, you should ensure that you are not overweight.
Make sure that you exercise regularly and are in good physical condition. You should control your diet and cut down your intake of fatty foods. Saturated fat is turned into unhealthy cholesterol by the body and you should switch to lean meats and stop your consumption of red meats. Cut down your intake of processed foods because these are also very high in saturated fats. Ensure that you consume foods high in soluble fiber because this will help you reduce your cholesterol levels. Increase your potassium intake because this mineral is very beneficial in bringing your blood pressure back to normal.
