Ear infections home cures Treatment of a ear infection depends on exactly where in the ear the infection is. There are several types of ear infections — one of the most common is a fungal infection of the outer ear, known as swimmer's ear. This is a relatively minor problem mainly involving inflammation of the skin, and can be treated easily at home by using a solution of vinegar and water.
You only need to apply the solution to your ear several times a day, and in addition wash your ear regularly but make sure that it is dry at all times. In most cases, the infection disappears within a week with this treatment.
Inner ear infections are more painful and also more dangerous, and you should therefore visit a doctor if the symptoms do not begin to subside within two or three days.
Meanwhile, to lessen the pain, you can apply a warm compress to the ear or put a few drops of warm olive oil into your ear. Infections of the inner usually take their own course and disappear within a couple of days, but when they don't they can get quite severe and also lead to permanent ear damage and other problems.
