UTI advice
I have the feeling of having a urinary tract infection constantly. All my tests were normal. I believe my problem is in my urethra because that is where it feels uncomfortable but when I ask the doctor, I'm told there is nothing wrong.

Urinary tract infections are surprisingly common medical conditions that affect the organs that make up the urinary tract. These organs include the kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. Urinary tract infections happen to be the second most common type of infection in the human body and account for almost 8. 3 million doctor visits every year in the United States of America alone.
The condition seems to affect women more frequently than it does men and studies have shown that one woman in every five is going to develop a urinary tract infection at least once during the course of her life. While the condition is unlikely to be serious, it can be significantly painful and, at times, even unbearable. The most common cause of a urinary tract infection is the bacteria present near the rectum or vagina being able to spread and enter the urinary tract through the urethra. Once the bacterium has entered the urethra, it may travel upwards using infection in the bladder and other organs. Another very common cause of urinary tract infections is sexual intercourse. This occurs as the bacteria in the vaginal area may be unknowingly massaged into the urethra by the continuous motion of the penis. Woman that have multiple sexual partners or very frequent sexual activity are likely to experience urinary tract infections on a more regular scale than monogamous women. The urinary system is also structured in such a way that it aids in the removal of the infection. The ureters and bladder would normally prevent the urine from being able to back up into the kidneys, while the flow of urine helps wash the bacteria out of the system. In men, the presence of certain secretions produced by the prostate gland also helps slow down bacterial growth.
Other factors that could possibly influence the onset of urinary tract infections are the presence of kidney stones, a person suffering from diabetes – because of the changes in the immune system and any disorder that suppresses the immune system.
When treating the condition, you should drink as much water as possible over the course of the day as it keeps your body well hydrated and increases the amount of urine that you will pass – thereby making sure that your urinary tract is regularly washed out. Always urinate when you feel the urge as the retention of urine within the bladder could prove to be a major cause of the onset of a urinary tract infection. Cranberry juice is known to be extremely effective in neutralizing bacteria that lines the walls of the urethra. Drinking significant amounts of the juice should prove to be extremely beneficial.

UTI advice If you have been properly examined by a doctor and the verdict is that there is nothing wrong, then you must accept this at face value. If you are not satisfied with the diagnosis and continue to believe that there is a problem and that it lies somewhere in your urethra, then it is imperative that you get a second opinion for this. It is possible that something may come up that your previous doctor may have missed. Sometimes, when you have had one doctor treating you for a long time, he or she may not always be as thorough in examination as a new doctor would be. A new doctor, who does not have the advantage of knowing your case history, may dig deeper and come up with something else that an old doctor missed.
Meanwhile, you can follow some simple home remedies to see if the problem can be taken care of without medical help as well. The best way to treat any kind of infection in any part of the urinary tract at home is to consume large quantities of cranberry juice and drink lots of water. Cranberry juice is known for its natural properties of fighting any sort of infection related to the urinary tract. If you drink at least 10 to 12 litres of water on a daily basis, it will enable your system to flush out toxins better and faster.
