Eating Habits of Infants

At the age of one, it is essential for you to remember that children have a natural tendency to graze, rather than eat properly. They are discovering new tastes and textures and familiarizing themselves with the concept of eating. It is important for you to pay attention to their diet at this time, as this is also when they are growing rapidly and cannot be lacking for proper nutrition.

The best thing for you to do would be to first of all, start accepting that your daughter may not want to eat too much. If this is the case, you can try to feed her every other hour or so. It is a lot of work, but for some children, it is the only way.

It is possible that you daughter is vomiting because she does not feel like eating and you are making her eat forcibly. You need to avoid doing this. Try offering her food a few times. If she keeps rejecting it, leave her alone. Children are intelligent enough to demand food when they want to eat. You should also try to offer her new things in every meal. Add a snack to the meal, or a new fruit or raw vegetable, or a savoury, or a sweet. Basically, if you continue to do this, your child will start looking forward to meal times and the process will become easier and more fun for both of you. This way, you will also be able to decide what she likes and does not like and feed her accordingly, thus helping to set her patterns of proper eating.
