Weight gain refers to an increase in the body mass by an increase of the muscular composition of the body, the amount of fat deposited in various sections of the body, or the retention of body fluids. Weight gain is also age dependent, while being influenced by the structure of the body. Besides this, the metabolic rate of the body plays an important role in weight gain.

In order to gain weight, it is necessary for the body to have enough resources at all times. The best way to gain weight is through natural procedures, thereby avoiding the use of medication and steroids. Dietary patterns and the consumption of specific foods that help to gain weight are advised, as are the maintenance of eating habits and timings for meals. Eating foods in excessive amounts will prove to do more harm than good, because it soon leads to obesity. Switching from a regularized three meal pattern, to a regular three meals and three healthy snacks a day will provide the body with excess nutrients and vitamins. The snacks should be taken between the meals so that the pattern of the three larger meals remains undisturbed. Regular exercise will also help in toning the muscles and burning up excess fat so that weight gain is in the healthy form.

Vegetables such as cucumber, lettuce and broccoli have high nutritional content, while being low in their calorific value, and are good for health while assisting in weight gain. Ensuring that meals include starchy foods, such as pasta or potato, fruits and vegetables and a good source of protein will help in gaining weight. Margarine and salad dressings can be used sparingly so that fat is added to the diet in moderate amounts. Fish and lean meats are protein rich foods that help to build muscle without any deposition of fat. Carbohydrates are equally important as they provide the body with fuel for the production of energy. Baked potatoes and whole wheat bread are excellent sources of carbohydrates that help in effective weight gain. Bananas and milk are other well known sources of nutrition that help in weight gain, while providing nutrition to the rest of the body as well. Intestinal parasites take the nutrition out of the food that you have consumed, thereby making it unavailable for use by the body. De-worming your child, or feeding her pomegranate, which serves the same purpose, should help take care of the problems caused by worms in the stomach.

However, since none are supplied here, a few generic suggestions can be followed by any person desiring to put on weight. Contrary to popular belief, exercise is a way to lose as well as gain weight. Your daughter must indulge in a routine of daily exercise for at least 30 minutes. If she does not want to work out, you can ensure that she plays a game of some sort for the duration. Swimming is also an excellent option. This will get her blood flowing, her circulation up and will also stimulate hunger. If your child has had a good round of exercise, she will also eat well.

You should also feed your child a good diet that is rich in carbohydrates, proteins and fiber to ensure that she puts on weight sensibly and does not just bloat out of proportion.
