Alternative Treatment for Canker Sores

I assume that you are referring to canker sores, which are a type of mouth ulcer. These ulcers are an extremely common problem, and they are usually minor lesions that are moderately painful and heal without treatment within a week. In some cases however, ulcers can be larger or more numerous, much more painful, and can take up to a month to heal. You have not provided any details about your condition at all, but if you have a severe problem with ulcers it is advisable that you visit a doctor. Especially if you frequently have painful, lasting ulcers, there may be some chronic underlying problem that is causing them, such as stress, some other illness, or an allergy.

For a minor problem with ulcers, you should mainly avoid any substances that can irritate the ulcers, such as tea, coffee, spicy food, excessively sour or salty food, tobacco, and mouthwashes that are too strong. The best mouthwash when you have ulcers is warm salt water. It is also important to keep your mouth clean, as the presence of bacteria will slow down the healing process. Eating yogurt is also beneficial because of the good bacteria that are naturally present in it.
