Cholera prevention tips

There are some simple measures you can follow to prevent acquiring this particular disease. Knowledge of how it occurs is the first one. Cholera spreads through contaminated food and water.

So the first thing you would need to do wherever you are, is to avoid eating or drinking anything that could be a contaminant. This would normally include undercooked food and unclean and untreated water. More specifically, undercooked or poorly cooked sea food has a very high possibility of spreading cholera.

If you are in a part of the world that has cholera as a rampant and recurring disease currently in occurrence, then you should avoid eating sea food and shell fish altogether. You should also avoid eating salads, since they may be washed in unclean water.

Generally, the best thing to do is to avoid eating anything raw. This would also mean you should steer clear of fruits, or else make sure you have washed and peeled them yourself before you eat them. Make it a point to eat freshly boiled food as well. Although this may wreak havoc with your taste buds, it is the best way to avoid a disease like cholera. You should also stick to boiled water that has been treated with chlorine or iodine. Better still, if you have access to it, you should stick to bottled water. Please remember that while these measures may help prevent cholera, none of them present a guarantee where the disease is rampant.
