Natural cures for diaper rash

Diaper rash cures
(14 Apr 2008)

I'd just like to build on Mark's post a little.  All of his advice has been great, but I have read a few more interesting facts.  First, current research articles indicate skin pH changes are a big factor in causing diaper rash.

If you can keep the pH levels of the diaper and its contents at about the same level as the pH of your baby's skin, which is naturally 5.0, skin is less likely to break down and become vulnerable to damage.  One good way to accomplish this is the use of a barrier, like petrolatum, which can keep water and unnatural pH levels off of a baby's skin.

I happened to find one product, called BabyPaste5.0, that is actually balanced at a pH level of 5.0, to add support to skin's natural defenses.  Whichever treatment of diaper rash you come up with, it seems to be a good idea to keep pH maintenance in mind.

Natural cures for diaper rash

Every child goes through the agony of a diaper rash. This affects not just the child but also the parent who has to watch the child scream in pain.

One of the first things you should do is take off your baby's diaper and let his skin breath. You can even let the baby stay without a diaper for some time. The area where your baby has the rash will probably be red and have inflamed slightly swollen skin. You can use lukewarm water  and a soft cloth to clean the area. Remember, you should avoid rubbing this area dry. Instead you should pat it dry. Drying it with some warm air from your hair dryer is a good idea too.  You can sprinkle some powder over the area. An application of some antiseptic cream will give the baby some relief.

You can avoid seeing your baby suffer through the discomfort and pain of a diaper rash by changing his diaper regularly. Wash with warm water each time you change his diaper. Pat dry. And then put on the fresh diaper. Dress the baby in loose clothes and ensure that he gets at least fifteen minutes each day without the diaper.

You should also avoid giving the baby fruit juices when he has a rash. Give the baby yogurt instead.
