Alternative treatment for nail fungus Cooped up all day long in tight shoes, cocooned in thick socks, our feet really do not have a chance. It is but inevitable that they get infected. The toe nails are particularly vulnerable to infections since the space between the nail and the skin is the perfect breeding ground for the fungi.
The infection is called by a group of fungus called drematophytes. These fungi feed on the keratin that makes up your nails. You will notice that your toe nails are discolored and flake very easily when they are affected by an infection.
They will also get thick and may hurt when you wear shoes.
You should wash your feet every time you take off your shoes. This will ensure that your feet are clean. You can also use a mixture of equal parts of warm water and apple cider vinegar to soak your feet in. Pat them dry and ensure that not a single spot is left wet. Wear shoes that are not too tight for your feet. During the summer months you can give your feet a break from the tight and uncomfortable shoes by slipping into sandals. Mix equal proportions of tea tree oil and lavender oil. Using a cotton swab dab this on the nail and around it too.
