Excessive menses flow

I am 24 years old and I have had my period for 5 weeks straight. Is this normal? What can I do for it?

Excessive menses flow

The human body is a strange mechanism. There is often no real reason for what happens when it does. When a woman begins her menstrual period is something that depends entirely on the physical condition of the woman's body.

While recent trends indicate that girls begin their menstrual cycles at increasingly younger ages, there are some girls whose cycle begins late. Similarly, there are some women and girls who never experience any pain or discomfort when they have their menstrual cycle. This does not mean to say that all women have pain free menstrual cycles.

Some women complain of painful cramps that can leave them writhing in pain.

In your case, your trouble with your menstrual cycle is the extensive time that it lasts for. This is not a normal occurrence since the average period of a woman's menstrual cycle is usually five days to a week. There are women who experience this for well over ten days. However, five weeks of menstruation is too much. You should consult your doctor at the earliest since this could well require some medical tests and a complete examination.    In the meanwhile you should ensure that you are relaxed and that you are eating a balanced diet. Always consult the doctor before you embark on any physical exercise.
