Fever blisters home remedies

Fever blisters are caused by the herpes or simplex virus and there is as yet no known cure for it. These blisters generally appear either on the lips or around them. At first they are filled with a clear liquid and after a couple of days they burst open and form scabs.

There are various medicines and treatments to reduce the pain and discomfort caused by these blisters. As they often appear after the flu or fever they are also called cold sores. Before the blisters actually form you will feel a tingling or burning sensation around your lips.

At this time, it would be wise to rub a little aloe vera juice over the affected area. This will help to speed up the healing process and it can often prevent the formation of a cold sore.

Take a spoon of used tea leaves and add a few drops of extract of mint to it. Use this as a poultice over the sores to ease discomfort and help them subside. If the blisters have not yet broken open, you can also add a pinch of powdered ginger to the mixture.

Over exposure to sunlight has been found to aggravate this condition, which is why it would be advisable to use a lip balm that contains an SPF of 15.
