I have some hair on my chin and when I use the tweezers to remove them, I am left with some scarring, I have been using from creams to gels to get rid of these scars on my chin, I am a light skinned person.

The scarring on your chin caused by plucking your hair out seems to indicate that you have very sensitive skin. In future, it might be best if you avoided plucking your hair and try another facial hair removal method.

Regarding the scars on your chin caused by the plucking, don't stress too much. Scars usually fade with time. A little judicious application of make-up will help to cover up the scarring. You can try applying witch hazel extract to the affected area. Witch hazel is reputed to help in the treatment of skin blemishes and scarring such as those caused by acne. However, this is not a remedy that will work overnight. You will need to apply it regularly for at least 3 to 4 weeks before noticing any difference. Even then, there is no guarantee that this remedy will work.

If you have tried the different facial hair removal methods and have not been satisfied with the results, then you should consider electrolysis. Electrolysis is a treatment used to permanently get rid of unwanted facial hair. In this treatment, a fine needle is inserted into the opening of your skin from where the hair grows. A low level electric current is passed through the needle which destroys the hair follicle. Once this has been accomplished, hair will not grow from that spot again.

A complete treatment for your whole face will require several sessions. While the treatment can be unpleasant and leave your skin swollen and tender, the permanence of this solution makes it a very popular option with women as well as men.

Electrolysis is used to remove hair from the face (eyebrows, lips, cheeks, chin and hairline), neck, shoulders, arms, breasts, underarms, abdomen, bikini line and legs, in short, anywhere on the body. It should not be done to remove nasal hair or ear hair. It should also not be done on individuals who have had a pacemaker installed.

While there are few risks associated with the process, you can expect some tenderness and inflammation after a session. This will usually subside after a few days. You should also know that in some cases, electrolysis has been known to result in scarring and can even cause changes in skin color.

It would be best to find a licensed and reputed electrologist to successfully get rid of your facial hair. Since the licensing norms for electrologists differ from state to state, ask your local doctor for a recommendation.

Tweezing, plucking, shaving, waxing, sugaring, electrolysis can all lead to ingrown hair and/or scarring. Though getting rid of a scar totally can be extremely difficult, some natural home remedies may help lighten them considerably.

Most scars will lighten on their own over time, but some easy natural methods which may help speed up the process are mentioned below. A combination of more than one remedy may be required, because what works well for one skin type may not be equally effective on another skin type. Though it may take some time before any results may be noticed, discipline and patience in using these remedies may pay rich dividends.

  • Aloe Vera: This remedy works best on fresh scars. Slit an Aloe Vera stem sideways and apply the white sticky juice inside, twice a day.
  • Honey: Honey acts as an effective antibiotic, and is a good remedy for treating scars. Massage raw honey into the scars. Leave on for 25-20 minutes and rinse off thoroughly with water.
  • Petroleum Jelly: Applying plain Vaseline on the scars for a few months may help.
  • Onion Extract: Some popular scar treatment creams / ointments contain onion extract as one of the active ingredients. This remedy can be tried at home by chopping an onion and squeezing out its juice. This juice can be applied to the skin with a cotton swab.
  • Potato: Potato can lighten scars considerably. Potato can be used in several ways. Either grate a potato, put it in a cheese cloth and rub it on the scar or squeeze out the juice and apply the juice with the help of a cotton swab. You could also mix the juice with some chickpea flour (available in all Indian groceries) and apply this paste. Rinse off with warm water after the pack dries up.
  • Lemon Juice: Lemon's citric acid helps exfoliate the top layers of the skin and lighten the scar (especially red acne scar). Lemon juice diluted in water can be applied with a cotton swab few times a day. This remedy is not recommended for sensitive skin as it can irritate the skin.
  • Cocoa Butter: Regularly applying cocoa butter to the scars may help lighten scars more quickly than some other creams. Other ingredients which aid natural healing include shea butter, castor oil, jojoba oil, and rose hip oil. You can use creams containing these ingredients.

You can apply cotton dipped in freshly squeezed lemon directly on the area of your scar. But this may help to lighten the skin slightly as lemon is a natural bleach and not get rid of it.

There are various methods such as dermabrasion, punch grafts, chemical peels, collagen injections, laser treatments which help to smoothen out scars or lessen them. If you want to go in for any of these, they should be administered under medical supervision by a qualified doctor.
