Inactive Thyroid Treatment

Thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland, seen at the base of the neck. Proper release of hormones fails to cause any kind of problems. Inadequate production of hormones results in underactive thyroid or hypothyroidism.

Proper diagnostic tests are useful in detecting the same. Administration of synthetic thyroid hormone is an effective way of treatment.

Antibiotics given orally are useful in bringing the thyroid back to normal.

Your physician's guidance is recommended, in the presence of cardiac problems, in addition to hypothyroidism. Artificial hormone supplementation is inexpensive and possesses lesser side effects. Proper dosage is taken care of, especially while changing the brand names. The TSH thyroid stimulating hormone levels are checked, prior to hormone administration. Increased appetite, palpitation, tremor and palpitation are the common side effects of excessive hormone intake.

Goitrogenic foods, such as sweet potato, rapeseed, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, soya, pearl millet and cabbage are restricted. Thyroid hormones reduce cholesterol levels for higher TSH levels. Thyroid hormone is available as natural extracts and is derived from pig's thyroid gland. Thyroxine and triiodothyronine are present in it. These are prescription drugs and a physician's advice is recommended.
