Information on Infant Health

Home remedies in infants are difficult to practice, except for a few. Hormonal changes after birth results in oral thrush. It is caused by a fungus.

Intake of antibiotics by mother results in thrush, due to breastfeeding. Generally, it clears up on its own. Though painful in some infants, it is got rid in a few weeks.

Oral fungal medications are available, which are painted on the infant's tongue. Lack of relief from thrush, calls for medical attention, at the earliest possible. Topical application of the medication on the nipples is an alternative, so that the infant feeds on it. Sterilizing the feeding bottles and pacifiers helps in preventing thrush.

Decongestant sprays are useful provided, it is considered under the guidance of your pediatrician. Humidifier or vaporizer helps in providing relief from nasal congestion. Infant nasal aspirators are available commercially. Providing more fluids is an effective remedy. Keep the head in an elevated manner, to reduce stuffy nose. Blocked nose is more difficult to handle when the child lies flat. Coughing for more than two weeks calls for a pediatrician's help.
